Carried away - forever

It's not uncommon for people who commit crimes to trigger emotions in people, and bizarrely that can often result in a split opinion. Personally I tend to try and be quite relaxed about these things figuring that the law is suitably equipped to deal with such matters and believing that prisons are about rehabilitation etc., although I'll freely admit there are some truly nasty people around who simply can't be helped. Like Maxine Carr for example, the wonder woman who saved the world from Ian Huntley - or more accurately stood back after he killed two small children and then tried to pretend she was an angel.

Now bizarrely Ian Huntley doesn't bother me. Firstly, he's actually accepted what he did and secondly he even seems somewhat remorseful about it all. But Maxinne is lifing in denial, and it bothers me how many people she's taken in with her sob story, given how relaxed I am about so many criminals it amazes me that people are so happy to defend maxine to me. All along it's seemed like she wasn't especially innocent Huntley's confession suggests she actually led the cover up rather than her previous story of being bullied into going along with it. And I believe Huntley for the reasons above. Maxine on the other hand has a history of fraud and a mother who intimidates witnesses. The idea of her lashing out at Huntley to protect her job and home doesn't sound far fetched to me.

Despite this fresh evidence and the fact that Carr is a free woman now, the police won't re-open the case. Yes, Maxine Carr has another narrow escape and will likely never return to prison ever again. Huntley? I don't believe his original actions were intentional, I don't believe he's the evil monster people make him out to be; more of a scared kid who got way out of his depth (think Lenny in Of Mice and Men). Maxine Carr? I wouldn't trust that woman one tiny little bit; I feel she's the really nasty piece of work out of those two.
