The Weekend Starts Here

So I'm slack, I declare the weekend here and intend to relax. I've upgraded iTunes to 4.5 and marvelled at the big license agreement you now have to agree to. I detest the silly arrows that'll take me to the iTunes store and search based on what the song is. Now if I could actually use the iTunes store these little arrows might be slightly less annoying but because I'm not a Patriotic American my money isn't good enough for them. Incidentally Apple are now giving away a free mp3 every week, to Americans. I thought Apple was supposed to be the hippie company to Microsoft's All-American style, coincidentally the latter gave free eBooks to the whole world recently.

Okay I just decided to look at iTunes before posting and there is an option in Preferences to disable the nasty arrows it just would be nice if they disabled it by default. I'm a big boy, I can click on the Music Store link in that side panel, I can type artists and song names into the search box.

Dear Apple,
I know you sell music. The reason I haven't purchased from you has nothing to do with the task being too complex for me.
Thank you.

Unfortunately this is probably yet another stupid default we'll have to live with though. The people who find it patronising are smart enough to disable the thing and anyone who actually needs that level of hand-holding won't be able to enable it.

To work out the frustration I've just slashed 88 crazy people in suits to pieces. Yes, violent movies are so influential I'm actually reenacting Kill Bill, although after getting bored cleaning up the blood I've decided to do it online instead. This is up there with the Shaun of the Dead game for silly Flash film games. This actually needs instructions so not really a linklog candidate, unless any of you actually speak Czech that is. On the splash screen hit the small black arrow in the bottom righthand corner, then when you get three buttons come up I have no idea what they all say but clicking Hrát seems to start the slaughter so I'd recommend that.

Anyway, I'll soon be leaving for Cathyville and a nice long weekend. Luckily this bank holiday seems to get ignored quite a bit so traffic should be okay. In thinking about it all I did notice something I seem to have missed before, namely that here in the UK we just have free days off work whereas other countries seem to find excuses to have officially short weeks. It's a mixed blessing in that we miss out on mini-celebrations and stuff, but on the plus side we don't have to faff about planning mini celebrations. For us it's just an extra day on the weekend. Some of us will have barbecues, some will visit family and even more will wish they could barbecue their family. I'm looking forward to escaping the daily drudgery. We'll probably be spending some time in London, see who's around, maybe get some bloke to scrawl in a book or two. I'm not sure I care, it'll be fun no matter.
